On 13 May 2019 Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) made a submission to the WA Dept of Communities in response to the recently released Consultation Regulatory Impact Statement (CRIS) on family day care residences with swimming pools, spas and water features in WA. The CRIS was developed to canvas proposed changes to regulations and other policy options to address recommendations made by Coroner Sarah Linton following the inquest into the tragic drowning of Lachlan James Mitchell at his family day care service on 9 November 2015.
FDCA also recently met with WA Minister for Communities, Simone McGurk MLA, to inform the Minister directly about the concerns outlined in our submission regarding the proposed recommendations. The Minister was open and receptive to the points we raised and remains committed to further consultation.
Following analysis of submissions to the CRIS, a Decision Regulatory Impact Statement (Decision Statement) will be prepared. The Decision Statement will analyse the impacts of the various options and will be used by Government to guide its decisions. The Decision Statement will be published via the Department’s website once the Government’s decision is made public.
FDCA will continue to monitor the situation closely and will respond to the Decision Statement when published.
