The National Law determines three interrelated approval processes for entities and individuals:
This is a nationally recognised approval and enables providers to apply for one or more service approvals. The provider approval process assesses whether you are ‘fit and proper’ to operate an early childhood education and care service.
This approval authorises an Approved Provider to operate an education and care service. The Approved Provider must nominate a person to be the Nominated Supervisor for each of their Approved Services. The service approval process assesses whether the service will be run in accordance with the National Law, Regulations and the National Quality Standard.
It is important to remember that a public liability insurance evidence of cover is required when a service is submitting an application for Service Approval. Family Day Care Australia is able to offer services Public Liability Insurance Starter Packs at reduced rates.
A person who holds a supervisor certificate may be appointed as the nominated supervisor of an education and care service, or may consent to be placed in day-to-day charge of a service in the absence of the approved provider or the nominated supervisor. Service approval applications must include the details of a person with an individual supervisor certificate, or who has applied for an individual supervisor certificate, who will be the service’s nominated supervisor (section 44, regulation 24.).
If the approved provider wishes to be the nominated supervisor, they must have an individual supervisor certificate, or have applied to their regulatory authority for an individual supervisor certificate. You can apply for an individual supervisor certificate online through the NQAITS, or by using the application for (CS01) on the ACECQA website.
Information sheets and application forms for provider and service approval can be found on the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) website by clicking here. All applications must be made electronically through the NQAITS portal on the ACECQA website.
Your State/Territory Regulatory Authority will be able to provide you with assistance with these processes and a list of all contact details can be found here.
