FDCA’s Pre-Budget Submission for 2023-2024
Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) made a submission to the Commonwealth Government Department of Treasury on Friday 27 January 2023, outlining key funding priorities to support and ensure the long-term viability of the family day care sector.
As per our previous submission, the FDCA Pre-Budget Submission for 2023-2024 contains four recommended investment measures:
1. raise the hourly Child Care Subsidy (CCS) cap rate for family day care in line with the calculation afforded to centre-based care services so that it more accurately reflects the cost of providing family day care;
2. apply an additional loading of 20% to the recalculated CCS fee cap for non-standard hours family day care to adequately reflect the cost of this type of care;
3. a direct funding support program (an “Approved Service Engagement Payment”) for family day care approved services to assist in the recruitment, induction and training of new family day care educators; and
4. a direct funding support program (an “Educator Start-up Grant”) for new family day care educators to assist in overcoming some of the financial barriers to entry into the sector in establishing their micro-business.
We look forward to continuing our advocacy work in this space and will keep members updated of any policy changes or funding announcements.
Episode 1 of the Online Engagement Series kicks off next week!
Join Maggie Dent and Sylvia Arotin next Thursday, 9 February at 6.00pm (AEDT) to explore and discuss strategies that can be used to support children’s behaviour in the family day care setting. Topics such as separation anxiety, impulse control, life changes and balancing the needs of children of different ages will be explored in this session.
Episode 1 is an ideal event for educators and service staff, and members are also more than welcome to share the details of this session with their families.
The panel sessions will be FREE to view live on the FDCA website, FDCA Facebook page and through FDCA's YouTube channel.
Can’t make it on the night?
If you can’t make the session on the night, don’t worry! The recording will remain on the FDCA website for members to access afterwards.
Applications open for the 2023 Narragunnawali awards
The Narragunnawali Reconciliation in Education Awards are the first and only national awards program in Australia that recognises and celebrates educational environments implementing outstanding reconciliation initiatives.
Finalist schools and early learning services are acknowledged for the ways in which they strengthen relationships, build respect, and provide meaningful opportunities in the classroom, around the school or early learning service, and with the community.
Held every two years since 2017, the Narragunnawali Awards 2023 are the fourth awards season to celebrate outstanding commitments to reconciliation within the education sector.
To place a nomination or to find out more about the awards program, visit the Narragunnawali website here.
Have you reviewed the updates to the approved learning frameworks?
Version 2 of the approved learning frameworks (Belonging, Being and Becoming and My Time, Our Place) are now available for use under the National Quality Framework.
Services and educators are encouraged to start familiarising themselves with the updated learning frameworks that apply to them and begin incorporating new or enhanced aspects into their educational program and practice.
The original national learning frameworks will remain in operation alongside the updated versions until early 2024, to allow time for providers and educators to transition over.
Visit ACECQA’s website for a number of resources summarising the changes.
