Direct Gap Fee Collection Resource – Communications Plan

As services prepare for the transition to Direct Gap Fee Collection (DGFC), having a clear communication strategy in place is essential. Developing a comprehensive communication plan supports consistent and effective communication with educators, families and staff.

Developed as part of FDCA's suite of resources, the Communications Plan is designed to identify and plan for:

  • Key audiences
  • Key messages
  • Communication channels
  • Timings
  • Designated responsibilities

In addition, a detailed example has also been created to guide services in completing their own plan with confidence.

The full suite of DGFC resources is available now on the Family Day Care Australia website.

Do you Meet the Qualification Requirements in Family Day Care?

Regulation 127 – Family Day Care Educator Qualifications of the Education and Care Services National Regulations requires that every family day care educator holds at least an approved Certificate III level education and care qualification.

This regulation is one of the most commonly breached in family day care services. While most services are committed to ensuring educators are qualified, breaches often occur when approved providers fail to verify qualifications against ACECQA's approved list or equivalence assessments, when qualifications presented are not ACECQA recognised (for example, older courses or overseas qualifications without equivalence) or when qualification records are incomplete, missing or not easily accessible during assessment and compliance visits.

Key Considerations

  • Hold an approved qualification – Educators must have at least a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • Verify with ACECQA – Approved providers are responsible for confirming that qualifications are recognised or equivalent.
  • Check older or overseas qualifications – Some require an ACECQA equivalence assessment before being valid.
  • Keep records current – Services must maintain accurate, accessible qualification records.
  • Monitor regularly – Build in processes or systems for ongoing checks and updates.

For educators, compliance means ensuring your qualification documents are current and shared with your service.

For approved providers, it means having robust systems to verify, record, and monitor educator qualifications.

Making Sense of the NQF: ACECQA's Induction 2 Module

The Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) has developed a series of free eLearning modules designed to build understanding of the National Quality Framework (NQF).

The second module in the series, NQF Induction 2: Overview of the NQF, provides a clear and practical introduction to the framework and is useful for a wide range of audiences:

  • New educators and staff - as part of onboarding new educators and team members.
  • Services – as part of professional development planning.
  • Experienced educators – to refresh their knowledge of the NQF’s purpose and structure.

The module's key learning objectives include:

  • Gaining an understanding of the purpose of the NQF – why it exists and how it supports quality and consistency across children’s education and care services.
  • Exploring the components of the NQF – including the National Law, National Regulations, National Quality Standard, and related guidance resources.
  • Recognising the role of the NQF in practice – how it guides compliance, continuous improvement, and quality outcomes for children.

You can access the NQF Induction 2: Overview of the NQF module here.
