2022 Federal Budget Wrap

Last night the Australian Government handed down the 2022-23 Federal Budget, confirming the following policies to assist the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector:

  • The Government is providing funding through the child care system, with $11 billion estimated to be spent in 2022–23, including $10.7 billion in Child Care Subsidy (CCS) expenditure. This includes the 7 March 2022 commencement of the increased CCS for the second child and subsequent children aged five and under in centre-based child care, family day care, or outside school hours care.

  • The Government will provide $67.7 million over 8 years from 2021-22 for a package of measures to support sustainability, resilience and job creation in regional Australia, including 19.4 million over 5 years from 2021-22 to establish a new open grant round of the Community Child Care Fund to support the establishment of new child care services in rural, remote and regional areas.

  • The Government will provide support for the recovery from the February / March 2022 floods in New South Wales (NSW) and Queensland, including $22.1 million over 2 years from 2021-22 to increase the Community Child Care Fund Special Circumstances grant to assist services experiencing financial viability issues resulting from the recent floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) supports the above investment measures into the ECEC sector but calls upon the Australian Government to adopt the policy measures outlined in our Election Policy Commitments document, to ensure equitable funding for the family day care sector and support the ongoing viability and growth of family day care.

FDCA Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Paterson, is in Canberra this week to discuss our Election Commitments with Ministers, MPs and the federal Department of Education, Skills and Employment.

Should you have any questions about the federal budget handed down last night, please get in touch via Enquiries@fdca.com.au or give us a call on 1800 658 699.
