Summertime safety for water play

Under the Education and Care Services National Regulations, providers must ensure that policies and procedures are in place for managing water safety.

With the weather heating up, water-based activities and excursions to water play areas are becoming more and more popular. It’s a good time to reflect on your water safety policy and procedures and ask yourself the following questions:

  • How are water risks managed or mitigated?
  • How do my risk assessments consider any water-based activities and excursions?
  • How do I ensure adequate supervision around water play, excursions and water hazards?

You can find more information to prompt a reflection on your approach to water safety through KidSafe and ACECQA.

Update from the Department of Education

Stay COVID-19 safe

Support will be available for services and families impacted by COVID-19 over summer and into 2023.

All children have an extra 10 allowable absences in the current financial year and families can access additional absences if they have used their annual allocation, in certain circumstances.

Providers may also waive gap fees and get the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) if a child is unable to attend care for one of three reasons.

More information on COVID-19 support in the new year is available on the Department’s website.
