The Family Day Care Capability Trial is funded by the Australian Government, facilitated by Family Day Care Australia, and recognises the capacity of family day care to cater for the diverse education and care needs of children and families.
The Capability Trial also highlights family day care's ability to deliver local employment opportunities and address the needs of regional communities with limited early childhood education and care supply.

Advanced national child safety training is now available through Geccko. The training builds on the foundation courses and supports educators and services to strengthen their child safety practices across early childhood education and care.
The advanced training consists of three courses:
Courses 3 and 4 are available now. Course 5 is expected to become available on 30 September 2026.
Who needs to complete the training?
The courses required depend on the person’s role:
Some people may therefore need to complete all three advanced courses.
When must the training be completed?
Remember: The release of advanced training is in addition to the foundation training and does not replace it. If you are required to complete the foundation training and have not yet done so, Courses 1 and 2 must be completed by 27 August 2026.

Regulation 127 – Family Day Care Educator Qualifications of the Education and Care Services National Regulations requires every family day care educator to hold at least an approved Certificate III level education and care qualification (or an ACECQA-approved equivalent), together with current approved first aid, anaphylaxis and asthma management qualifications.
This regulation is one of the most commonly identified breaches in family day care services. While most services are committed to ensuring educators are appropriately qualified, breaches commonly occur when qualifications have not been verified against ACECQA's approved qualification list or equivalence assessments, records are incomplete or out of date, or robust onboarding and verification processes are not in place.
Key Points to Remember
Family day care educators should ensure their qualification documents are current and provide original or certified copies to their approved provider before providing education and care, and whenever qualifications or training certifications are updated. Approved providers play a critical role in verifying qualifications, maintaining accurate records and monitoring ongoing compliance to ensure educators continue to meet legislative requirements.
Compliance reminder
Qualification requirements form part of a broader educator onboarding process. Approved providers should also ensure all required verification checks have been completed in accordance with current Commonwealth and state or territory requirements.
